Hip Pain & Hip Injury Rehabilitation
Expert, one-on-one physical therapy for hip conditions — from labral tears and hip impingement to arthritis and post-surgical recovery. Led by Daniel Crowe, PT, DPT, OCS, a board-certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist with 13 years of experience.
Hip Labral Tear
Conservative and post-surgical rehab restoring joint stability, strength, and pain-free hip function.
Total Hip Replacement
Structured recovery protocols restoring range of motion, strength, and independent function after THR.
Gluteal Tendinopathy
Evidence-based progressive loading to address the most common cause of chronic lateral hip pain.
Hip Osteoarthritis
Evidence-based exercise and manual therapy to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and delay or avoid surgery.
Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)
Movement retraining and targeted strengthening to relieve pinching pain with deep hip flexion and rotation.
Hip Bursitis (Greater Trochanteric Pain)
Targeted loading programs and manual therapy to resolve lateral hip pain at its biomechanical source.
Hip Flexor Strain
Progressive loading and stretching protocols to restore strength and resolve anterior hip pain safely.
Piriformis Syndrome
Manual therapy and targeted exercise to relieve deep buttock pain and associated nerve irritation.
Hip Pain Treatment can include
Manual therapy
Hands-on joint mobilization and soft tissue techniques reduce pain, improve hip joint and surrounding muscle mobility, and prepare the hip for progressive loading — particularly valuable for post-surgical stiffness and osteoarthritis.
Therapeutic exercise
Evidence-based exercise progressions rebuild glute, hip flexor, and core strength systematically. Load is progressed carefully based on tissue healing stages and your functional response, restoring strength through a full, pain-free range of motion.
Gait & movement retraining
Hip conditions frequently alter walking and movement patterns, which can perpetuate pain even after tissue healing. Gait analysis, single-leg control training, and sport-specific or work-specific progressions ensure you return to full function — not just pain-free at rest.

Nebraska allows direct access to physical therapy, meaning you can schedule an appointment without a physician referral. However, some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement purposes — we recommend checking with your insurer prior to your first visit.
-
Timeline varies by diagnosis. Hip bursitis and gluteal tendinopathy often improve significantly in 6–12 weeks with a consistent loading program. Hip labral tears or FAI may require 3–6 months of conservative care, or a similar timeline post-surgically. Total hip replacement recovery typically spans 3–4 months to return to full activity. Your therapist will outline a realistic timeline at your initial evaluation.
-
An Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) is a physical therapist who has passed a rigorous specialty examination administered by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. OCS-certified therapists demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge, skills, and experience in orthopedic diagnosis and treatment — the highest credential available in musculoskeletal physical therapy.
-
For many hip conditions — including mild to moderate osteoarthritis, gluteal tendinopathy, bursitis, and some labral tears — evidence-based physical therapy is often effective as a first-line treatment. A thorough evaluation will clarify whether conservative care is appropriate for your specific diagnosis, and we will be transparent if surgical consultation is warranted.
-
Your first appointment is a full orthopedic evaluation with Dr. Crowe. We review your medical history, conduct a comprehensive examination of your hip, pelvis, and movement patterns, identify the root cause of your condition, and build an individualized treatment plan with you before you leave. You will not be passed off to a technician or aide at any point.
-
Most surgeons recommend beginning physical therapy within days to a couple of weeks after total hip replacement, depending on your surgeon's specific protocol. Early, guided movement is important for restoring range of motion and preventing stiffness. We coordinate closely with your surgeon's post-operative guidelines throughout your recovery.
-
At Power of Motion, every session is one-on-one with your OCS-certified therapist — no aides, no shared appointments, no 15-minute check-ins while your therapist manages three other patients. You receive your therapist's full attention, expertise, and hands-on care for the entire session, every time. This model consistently produces better outcomes and a faster, safer recovery.
