A different approach to persistent pain
Time to actually listen — a full hour, one-on-one, to understand your pain history, what you've already tried, and what matters most to you.
Pain science education — understanding how persistent pain works in the nervous system is often a powerful first step toward reducing its grip.
Graded, gradual progress — movement is reintroduced carefully, building tolerance and confidence without provoking flare-ups.
Continuity with one provider — you see Dr. Crowe every visit, building the trust that persistent pain care depends on.
What to expect at Power of Motion
Comprehensive evaluation — a thorough look at your pain history, prior treatments, movement, and current contributing factors.
Education & goal-setting — understanding your pain and defining what meaningful progress looks like for your life, not just a pain scale number.
Graded exposure to movement — carefully progressed activity to rebuild capacity and reduce fear around movement.
Sustainable, long-term function — building strategies and confidence that hold up well beyond your time in PT.
On-site referral to health psychology
Persistent pain often involves both the body and the nervous system's relationship to pain — which is why, when appropriate, physical therapy alone isn't the whole picture. Power of Motion Physical Therapy shares office space with Power of the Mind Psychology, a health psychology practice led by Krista Crowe, PsyD, who has over 10 years of experience treating chronic pain.
Power of Motion and Power of the Mind are independently owned and operated practices. When a patient's chronic pain would benefit from a health psychology approach, Dr. Crowe can refer on-site to Dr. Crowe (PsyD) — and the reverse is also true, with referrals made as clinically appropriate in either direction.
-
Generally pain lasting longer than 3 months, beyond typical tissue healing time. This doesn't mean the pain isn't real — it often means the nervous system has become more sensitive to pain signals over time, a different (and treatable) mechanism than a fresh injury.
-
Persistent pain often needs a different approach than a typical acute injury program — one addressing pain science education and gradual movement exposure, not just the original tissue. A thorough evaluation can identify what may have been missing.
-
No. Movement is reintroduced gradually, at a pace that respects your current tolerance, aiming to build confidence rather than provoke flare-ups.
-
Yes. Power of the Mind Psychology, led by Dr. Krista Crowe, PsyD, operates in the same building and specializes in health psychology for chronic pain. Power of Motion and Power of the Mind are separate, independently run practices, but we coordinate on-site referrals when a patient's care would benefit from both physical and psychological approaches to persistent pain.
